Globally recognized for her expertise in research and clinical work in cosmetic surgery and noninvasive cosmetic procedures, Dr. Carruthers has played a pivotal role in the development of today’s cosmetics industry. With her husband, Dr. Alastair Carruthers, she pioneered the cosmetic use of botulinum A exotoxin (“Botox”) that has since grown to become the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world.
A highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Carruthers has given thousands of presentations on cosmetic surgery and continues to lecture on the global stage, most often as a keynote speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery conferences. A media maven, she has been featured in Best Doctors in Canada, The New York Times, Allure, Time, Newsweek and Vogue, on 20/20, and at TedTalk.
Having authored more than 300 peer reviewed scientific publications, 70 book chapters and 9 textbooks, Dr. Carruthers’ work has been recognized internationally through numerous prestigious awards.
A distinguished educator, Dr. Carruthers is also a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
